Overwatch 2 Season 10 Shakeup

Overwatch 2's Season 10 launched with every hero receiving at least one adjustment in one of the most comprehensive balance passes in recent memory. Early expert commentary points to likely meta instability with "a lot of experimentation in the first weeks" as teams rapidly adapt strategies.

Beyond the sweeping balance changes, Season 10 fundamentally altered how players access the game's roster by making all heroes, including the new damage hero Venture, free for everyone. This eliminates the previous requirement of unlocking new heroes through the Battle Pass, a controversial practice since *Overwatch 2's* 2022 launch. New players now only need to complete the introductory experience to access the full lineup. A significant focus of the patch was a rework of the tank hero Wrecking Ball, aimed at making him a more effective team player. His Adaptive Shields can now be reactivated to transfer up to 300 overhealth to nearby allies, with a cap of 75 per teammate. His Grappling Claw also received quality-of-life improvements, including the ability to retract, pulling him toward the anchor point, and a reduced cooldown under certain conditions. Multiple other tanks received buffs to increase their impact. Reinhardt's Earthshatter, for instance, saw its knockdown duration increase from 2.75 to 3 seconds and its range extended from 20 to 25 meters. Junker Queen's Carnage ability had its initial damage boosted from 90 to 105, while Sigma's Experimental Barrier now moves 21% faster. On the damage side, some popular heroes were toned down. Tracer's Recall cooldown was increased by one second, and the projectile size of her Pulse Bomb was reduced to demand more precision. Sombra's Virus had its total damage over time decreased from 100 to 90. Support heroes saw a mix of adjustments. Lifeweaver received direct buffs, with his Rejuvenating Dash self-heal increasing from 50 to 60 and Tree of Life's pulse healing jumping from 75 to 90. Conversely, Lucio's primary fire damage per projectile was slightly reduced, though his "Boop" damage was increased. This season's hero adjustments follow the massive, system-wide changes of Season 9, which introduced global adjustments like increased hero health pools and larger projectile sizes. That earlier patch was considered one of the most drastic shakeups in the game's history, setting the stage for the individual hero tuning seen in Season 10. The update also introduced a new Mythic Shop, allowing players to acquire Mythic skins from past seasons, a feature the community had requested. This change, alongside the hero unlocks, points to a broader strategy of giving players more control and access to in-game content. A limited-time trial of a new 5v5 game mode called Clash was also introduced on the new Hanaoka map. This mode, first revealed at BlizzCon 2023, offers a fresh competitive experience for players to test.
