Compact DALI PIR sensor surfaces

- A vendor promoted a new compact PIR and light sensor aimed at DALI smart-lighting projects. - The social announcement emphasised the sensor's small form factor for DALI installations. - Smaller, integrated sensors can simplify retrofit and new-install sensor placement in commercial and architectural projects. A motion-and-light sensor small enough to disappear into a luminaire is the latest pitch in DALI smart lighting. Sunricher is marketing a fixture-integrated passive infrared, or PIR, unit for DALI-2 projects. (sunricher.com) DALI, short for Digital Addressable Lighting Interface, is the wiring standard many commercial buildings use to let lights, sensors and controllers talk over the same bus. Sunricher’s DALI-2 sensor lineup includes ceiling-mount and fixture-integrated models that combine occupancy detection with ambient-light measurement. (sunricher.com) A PIR sensor works by detecting changes in infrared energy from a moving person, while the light sensor measures room brightness in lux. Sunricher’s compact fixture-integrated models are specified for a roughly 5-meter detection zone at a 2.5-meter mounting height. (adiosun.com) The company’s current compact DALI-2 offerings include the SR-DA9032A-PIR and the SR-DA9035A-PIR, both described as fixture-integrated PIR-plus-photocell sensors. Product pages and manuals say they are powered from the DALI bus and configured through a DALI-2 compliant central controller. (sunricher.com) (adiosun.com) That matters in retrofit jobs because sensor placement is often constrained by ceiling access, fixture geometry and visible hardware. A sensor that sits inside or close to the luminaire can cut extra cutouts, separate housings and added wiring runs. (smartbrightleds.com) (sunricher.com) It also fits the broader shift toward sensors that do two jobs at once: detect occupancy and track daylight for automatic dimming. DALI-2 defines separate standardized instances for motion detection and light measurement, which lets central controllers treat those functions as distinct data sources. (adiosun.com) (lemona.lt) Sunricher is not limiting that strategy to one form factor. Its catalog also lists ceiling sensors, Zhaga Book 18 outdoor-style sensor nodes and Bluetooth-to-DALI variants that pair PIR and light sensing with different network layers. (sunricher.com 1) (sunricher.com 2) (sunricher.com 3) The pitch, then, is less about inventing a new sensor category than shrinking one that lighting designers already use. In DALI projects where every visible component and every wiring point counts, smaller hardware is the feature. (sunricher.com) (smartbrightleds.com)
