CLAY LA returns to Craft Contemporary in Los Angeles this weekend, opening April 24 for a three-day ceramics market and museum fundraiser. (craftcontemporary.org) The event runs Friday, April 24, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for a ticketed preview night, then continues Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 5814 Wilshire Blvd. (craftcontemporary.org) Preview-night tickets cost $20 for the general public and $15 for members. Saturday market access is included with $9 museum admission, and Sunday admission is pay-what-you-wish. (craftcontemporary.org) Craft Contemporary calls this the ninth edition of CLAY LA, its signature ceramic marketplace and fundraiser. The museum says the event brings together emerging and established ceramic artists from across Los Angeles. (craftcontemporary.org) The museum says hundreds of artists have participated over the years and thousands of visitors have supported local makers through CLAY LA. That support also ties into Craft Contemporary’s ceramics programming, workshops, sales and exhibitions, including its upcoming fourth clay biennial, “tierra.” (craftcontemporary.org) This year’s vendor list includes more than two dozen makers and studios, among them Angel Prudencio, Chunmei Ceramics, FHAR Studio, Greg Lowe Arts, Hugh Remar Los Angeles, People’s Pottery Project and Tierra del Sol. (craftcontemporary.org) The weekend also includes free drop-in air-dry clay activities from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., with clay donated by Laguna Clay & Glaze Co. The preview night adds complimentary refreshments, music and one opportunity-drawing ticket for each ticket holder. (craftcontemporary.org; craftcontemporary.org) Additional opportunity-drawing entries will be sold in person for $5 each during the market. Craft Contemporary says winners will be contacted on April 29 and must pick up prizes at the museum because items will not be shipped. (craftcontemporary.org) PBS SoCal included CLAY LA in its April 20–26 list of things to do in Southern California this week. The listing describes it as Craft Contemporary’s ceramic marketplace and fundraiser celebrating Los Angeles’ clay community. (pbssocal.org; pbssocal.org) For visitors, the pitch is direct: buy pottery, meet makers and see the museum’s ceramics program in one stop before the market closes Sunday afternoon.
