Sunway University and BookXcess are marking World Book Day on April 23, 2026 with a joint reading campaign tied to the university’s community outreach program. The partnership centers on a book donation initiative and reading activities linked to Sunway University’s “Campus With A Conscience” platform, according to coverage published on April 22 and a Sunway University post. Sunway University said Professor Malissa Maria Mahmud, dean of its School of Education, represented the school in the collaboration with BookXcess at Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-Kanak Cacat Taman Megah, a care center for children with disabilities. World Book Day is observed each year on April 23 as UNESCO’s World Book and Copyright Day, a date used by schools, libraries, publishers and community groups for reading events. That global frame helps explain why a campus event in Selangor is being staged through a local partnership rather than a standalone university program. BookXcess is a Malaysian bookseller, and Sunway’s campaign places the event inside a broader service and sustainability effort on campus. Sunway has used “Campus With A Conscience” for other public-facing projects, including a United Nations festival in September 2024 that the university said drew more than 25,000 students and outside groups. The World Book Day collaboration extends that same model into reading access. The wider World Book Day ecosystem remains active in 2026. In the United Kingdom, World Book Day organizers are listing national and local events and distributing themed classroom and family resources for this year’s celebration. At Sunway, the point is not a one-day ceremony alone. The April 23 program uses the global book observance to move books, volunteers and reading activities into a specific community setting.
