Metallica Triples Vegas Sphere Residency
Metallica just added 16 new shows to their "Life Burns Faster" residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas, tripling their original engagement to 24 total performances. The expanded run now stretches well into 2027, with tickets going on general sale March 6 at 10 a.m. PT. This marks one of the most ambitious arena residencies ever, capitalizing on the Sphere's cutting-edge visuals and acoustics for an immersive concert experience.
Metallica's "Life Burns Faster" residency is part of a growing trend of extended artist takeovers at the technologically advanced venue. The initial eight shows, announced in late February 2026, were quickly supplemented with additional dates due to high demand. The band will continue their "No Repeat Weekend" format from their "M72" world tour, promising unique setlists for each of the paired Thursday and Saturday performances. The 24-show total places Metallica in the upper echelon of Sphere residencies. For comparison, U2 inaugurated the venue with a 40-show run that concluded in March 2024. Dead & Company followed with a residency that was extended to a total of 48 shows by May 2025, making it one of the longest engagements at the venue to date. The Sphere itself boasts an 18,200-capacity and is renowned for its immersive capabilities, featuring a 160,000-square-foot wraparound LED screen and an advanced sound system with over 167,000 speakers. Each artist residency works with a dedicated creative team to develop unique visuals that complement their music, a feature Metallica is expected to leverage fully. Other notable acts that have booked residencies at the Sphere include Phish, who played a four-night run in 2024 and have announced a nine-show return for 2026, and the Eagles, who have also scheduled a multi-show engagement. The venue plans to host four to six different residencies each year.
