Sparrow Orlando Wins Best New Restaurant

Sparrow in Orlando just won Best New Restaurant at the Foodie Awards, praised as a "small, sexy" high-flying hit with innovative dishes. The award recognition is already generating buzz with food critics calling it a standout among 2026's new openings.

Sparrow is the latest concept from the acclaimed Good Salt Restaurant Group, operated by husband-and-wife team Jason and Sue Chin. This duo were James Beard Award finalists for "Outstanding Restaurateur" in 2025, solidifying their reputation for creating some of Orlando's most celebrated dining spots. The culinary force behind Sparrow is Executive Chef Wendy Lopez, who also heads the kitchen at its sister restaurant, Reyes Mezcaleria. In a significant nod to her skill and vision, Chef Lopez was nominated for a 2026 James Beard Award in the "Best Chef: South" category. The restaurant, which officially opened in September 2025 after a soft launch in May, is located in Orlando's North Quarter, just steps from Reyes Mezcaleria. The intimate 80-seat venue was designed by Sue Chin to have a cozy and dynamic atmosphere with walnut finishes and checkerboard floors. Chef Lopez's menu draws inspiration from Southern European traditions, blending influences from Spain, Portugal, and France. Standout dishes include jamón ibérico, short rib ragù, tuna and salmon crudo, and Basque cheesecake, reflecting a menu of continental classics and creative small plates. The "Foodie Awards" mentioned are the Orlando Sentinel's annual reader's choice awards, a significant local recognition. The winners for the 2026 awards were announced on March 6th. Sparrow clinched the "Best New Restaurant" title against other notable 2026 finalists. The competition in the category included The Chapman, Corner Chophouse, and Outpost Neighborhood Tavern.
