Animated Series 'Bluey' Set for European Cinema Release
The popular Australian children's animated show "Bluey" is heading back to the big screen with a theatrical release across the U.K. and Europe scheduled for March. The release highlights the global appeal and commercial success of the series beyond its home market.
- This theatrical event is titled "Bluey at the Cinema: Playdates with Friends Collection" and will be an hour-long compilation of eight episodes from the show's three series. Included in the collection are the episodes "Shadowlands," "Octopus," "Circus," and "Slide," which focus on themes of play, friendship, and family. - The release is a collaboration between BBC Studios, Vue Lumière, and Piece of Magic Entertainment. Vue Lumière will handle the release in the U.K. and Ireland starting March 27, while Piece of Magic Entertainment will distribute it to other European countries including Spain, Poland, Italy, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg later in the spring. - This marks the third time *Bluey* has had a theatrical compilation release in Europe. The previous two, "Bluey at the Cinema: Family Trip Collection" (August 2024) and "Bluey at the Cinema: Let's Play Chef Collection" (May 2025), collectively sold over 1 million tickets across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. - The series has demonstrated massive global appeal, becoming the most-streamed show in the United States for the second consecutive year in 2025, with viewers watching 45.2 billion minutes on Disney+. - Beyond these episode compilations, a full feature-length *Bluey* movie is in development and is scheduled for a worldwide cinema release on August 6, 2027. The movie will be written and directed by the show's creator, Joe Brumm. - The show's popularity has also led to a successful live stage show, "Bluey's Big Play," which has toured internationally and is returning to the U.K. and Ireland for a 32-venue run starting in October 2025. - In 2024, the 28-minute special episode "The Sign" received over 10.4 million views worldwide on Disney+ in its first week. This extended episode format was an experiment by creator Joe Brumm, who enjoyed working with a longer narrative.
