CIVL Fest 2026 runs April 16-25 and turns Chicago’s independent venue network into a 10-day, citywide lineup of more than 40 shows. (choosechicago.com) Choose Chicago’s festival listing says the program spans multiple neighborhoods and mixes local, national, and international artists with panels and special events. The participating rooms range from Empty Bottle, Metro, Lincoln Hall and Thalia Hall to Spybar, Reggies, The Hideout and The Salt Shed. (choosechicago.com) The calendar reads like a cross-section of the city’s club map. The opener was SUNN O))) at The Salt Shed on April 16, and later dates include GZA’s “Liquid Swords” 30th anniversary show at Avondale Music Hall on April 24 and a Poison Ruin bill at Subterranean on April 22. (choosechicago.com 1) (choosechicago.com 2) (choosechicago.com 3) The festival also mixes ticketed concerts with lower-cost and free events. Empty Bottle’s April 20 album-release bill for Double Extra Large, Godstar Megamax and Yetta was listed as free, while Metro’s Nocturna Spring Ball on April 18-19 was listed at $25.23. (choosechicago.com 1) (choosechicago.com 2) CIVL stands for the Chicago Independent Venue League, a coalition of independently owned music and performance spaces. Choose Chicago says the group works to support the city’s grassroots cultural ecosystem and advocates for venue operators and workers. (choosechicago.com) That mission lands in a live-events sector still rebuilding audiences after the pandemic shock. Choose Chicago and the city’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events said in 2022 that performing arts groups, including CIVL, were seeking marketing support to bring local and regional crowds back to live shows. (choosechicago.com) This year’s venue list shows how broad that ecosystem is. The April 20 and April 24 festival pages name 29 participating spaces, including Carol’s Pub, Old Town School of Folk Music, Rosa’s Lounge, The Annoyance Theatre and Harold Washington Cultural Center. (choosechicago.com) (choosechicago.com) As of Tuesday, April 21, the festival is in progress, with daily listings continuing through Saturday, April 25. The full schedule sits on Choose Chicago’s event pages, where each date breaks out individual bills by venue. (choosechicago.com)
