Philippines Promotes Sunset Beaches

The Philippines' Department of Tourism is promoting relaxing spots in Sarangani, Boracay, Camiguin, and Davao Oriental for sunsets and pristine coasts. The social media post garnered 5 likes and 351 views as travelers seek peaceful beach getaways.

The Philippines' tourism sector is a significant pillar of the national economy, contributing 8.9% to the country's GDP in 2024. The industry also provided employment for 6.75 million Filipinos in the same year. In a strong post-pandemic rebound, the country welcomed 6.2 million international visitors in 2024, surpassing government targets. This promotional effort is part of the broader "Love the Philippines" campaign, which replaced the long-running "It's More Fun in the Philippines!" in June 2023. The new campaign aims to highlight the country's history, culture, and natural assets to a global audience. The government is targeting 7.7 million international visitor arrivals for 2024. Boracay, one of the featured destinations, underwent a significant six-month rehabilitation in 2018 to address environmental concerns. The cleanup focused on improving waste management and demolishing illegal structures. A daily cap on tourist arrivals was also implemented to ensure sustainability. From January 1 to May 15, 2024, the island welcomed 807,184 tourists. Sarangani, often called the "Boracay of the South," is known for the fine white sands of Gumasa Beach. Beyond the beaches, the province offers eco-tourism adventures like whitewater tubing and diving in Tuka Marine Park, which is a protected sanctuary with vibrant coral reefs. Davao Oriental, the easternmost province in the Philippines, boasts attractions like Aliwagwag Falls, considered the highest waterfall in the country, and the UNESCO World Heritage site, Mount Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary. Its Dahican Beach is a popular spot for surfing and skimboarding. The island of Camiguin, known as the "Island Born of Fire," is home to seven volcanoes. Its unique attractions include the Sunken Cemetery, marked by a giant cross in the sea, and the pristine White Island sandbar. To boost tourism year-round, the provincial government has launched the "Isle Visit Camiguin 2026" calendar of events.
