Virginia City, Nevada, turns its main street into a dirt-bike start line again this weekend as the Virginia City Grand Prix returns April 24-26. (vcgp.com) The race begins on C Street in the middle of the National Historic Landmark mining town, then sends riders onto desert loops above town. Organizers call it one of the largest off-road motorcycle races in the West. (vcgp.com) (visitvirginiacitynv.com) This year’s event is billed on the race website as the 55th anniversary, with nearly 1,000 racers and free admission for spectators. Check-in opens Friday, April 24, and the main race days are Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26. (vcgp.com 1) (vcgp.com 2) The format is unusual because riders launch from a paved downtown street and then disappear into long off-road loops in the hills. The visitor listing says spectators can watch from C Street and from the Virginia City Fairgrounds and Arena as riders cycle through town. (visitvirginiacitynv.com) (travelnevada.com) Virginia City has run the Grand Prix since 1971, giving the race a half-century foothold in a town better known for saloons, wooden sidewalks and Comstock mining history. The race site says that mix of modern off-road competition and Old West streets is the event’s defining draw. (vcgp.com) (visitrenotahoe.com) The rider packet shows the weekend is split by skill, age and bike type, with separate pro and non-pro classes and different loop lengths. Organizers also said the dedicated electric-motorcycle class used in past years will not run in 2026. (vcgp.com) Registration fees start at $90 for non-pro classes, $190 for pro classes and $40 for the Moto Mouth Mini Grand Prix. The registration page lists rider check-in at the V&T Freight Depot near the pits. (vcgp.com) For spectators, the simplest fact is still the hook: engines fire on historic C Street, then the race spills straight into the high desert above town. Local tourism listings show the event running through Sunday, April 26. (visitvirginiacitynv.com) (thisisreno.com)
