Canada Loses Jobs Under Carney
Canada lost 84,000 jobs last month under Mark Carney's leadership, sparking criticism [https://x.com/mapleblooded/status/2032462957544722609]. This is the most jobs lost since 2022 [https://x.com/mapleblooded/status/2032462957544722609].
The loss of 84,000 jobs has pushed Canada's unemployment rate to 6.9%, the highest since November 2023. Approximately 1.6 million Canadians are now unemployed, placing a significant strain on the labor market. The manufacturing sector has been particularly hard hit, shedding 31,000 jobs in a single month. Statistics Canada links these losses to U.S. tariffs on Canadian steel, aluminum, and automobiles. These tariffs have disrupted supply chains and decreased demand for Canadian exports. The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA) predicts that Prime Minister Carney's planned cuts could lead to 57,000 federal public service job losses between 2024 and 2028. The departments most likely to be affected are the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), Employment and Social Development, and Citizenship and Immigration. The CRA has already lost almost 7,000 full-time jobs due to previous cuts in 2025.
