3D Printing Walls at $20/sqft
ICON unveils Titan, a new 3D-printed home robot in Austin promising $20/sqft walls [https://www.newsnationnow.com/business/tech/icon-austins-3d-printed-home-building-robot/].
ICON's new Titan system is a rail-less, multi-story 3D-printing platform designed to build reinforced concrete structures with less labor and better cost control. The company believes its technology offers the fastest and lowest-cost way to build high-quality housing. Titan is designed to overcome limitations of earlier tech, printing taller and faster, even on challenging terrain. ICON is now offering its 3D-printing technology to other construction companies, with Titan deliveries expected in early 2027. The Titan system includes access to BuildOS software, on-site training, and ongoing support. ICON estimates Titan can print walls for around $20 per square foot, a potential 40% cost reduction compared to traditional methods. ICON has already completed several 3D-printed projects, including a 100-home community in Georgetown, Texas, with Lennar and designs co-created by Bjarke Ingels Group. The company also has plans to build 10 additional barracks for the U.S. Army and a 3D-printed hotel in Marfa, Texas. ICON's Vulcan printer was used for the 100-home project, extruding concrete layer by layer to form the walls.
