Anti-War Protest at San Jose City Hall
Anti-war demonstrators faced counter-protesters outside San Jose City Hall on March 2nd. The groups held conflicting views on a war, with one side condemning it and the other supporting it.
The San Jose protest was part of a National Day of Action organized by ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) against a U.S.-led military attack on Iran. Similar demonstrations occurred in over 33 cities across the country, including Los Angeles, San Francisco and Ventura. The nationwide protests were sparked by recent U.S. and Israeli military strikes that resulted in the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Hosseini Khamenei. Protestors fear the conflict could escalate into a broader regional war, causing widespread death and destruction. Public opinion polls indicate significant opposition to the military action in Iran. A recent Quinnipiac University poll revealed that 53% of voters oppose the U.S. military action, with 74% against sending U.S. ground troops to Iran. This mirrors trends from other polls, showcasing historically low support for a military offensive at its launch. San Jose City Hall has been the site of numerous protests throughout the years, including Occupy San José in 2011, which protested corporate greed and social inequality. In 2025, students rallied at City Hall to protest ICE activity in schools. In 2017, thirty thousand people marched from City Hall to Cesar Chavez Plaza as part of the Women's March.
