Pasadena Officer Shot in Gun Battle
A Pasadena police officer was shot and a suspect was killed during a gunfight near a Metro Gold Line station. The incident prompted a major law enforcement response, and the officer's condition is currently unknown.
The incident began around 7:30 p.m. on Monday when Pasadena police responded to a report of a man shot in the shoulder at the A Line's Sierra Madre Villa station. Officers located the victim and began rendering aid while other officers spotted a man nearby who matched the suspect's description. A foot pursuit covering approximately three blocks ensued when officers attempted to contact the man. The chase ended in an exchange of gunfire near Sierra Madre Villa Avenue and Electronic Drive, adjacent to the station's parking structure. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The wounded officer, described as a senior member of the department and a field training officer, was transported to Huntington Hospital. He was conscious and talking after being shot and underwent surgery Monday night. The initial shooting victim was also hospitalized in stable condition. Due to a standing agreement, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department will handle the criminal investigation into the officer-involved shooting, a process that has taken over a year in previous Pasadena cases. This multi-agency review will also involve the District Attorney's office and an internal administrative review by the Pasadena Police Department.
