It will be published by McClelland & Stewart in Canada, Doubleday in the U.S., and Chatto & Windus in the U.K. - While this is her first official memoir, Atwood has previously published 11 non-fiction books containing personal prose and essays, such as *Negotiating with the Dead: A Writer on Writing* and *Burning Questions: Essays & Occasional Pieces 2004 – 2021*. - The book is expected to cover her unconventional childhood spent in the forests of Northern Quebec, the period in East Berlin which influenced *The Handmaid's Tale*, and her long-term partnership with the late writer Graeme Gibson. - Atwood, now 86, has had a prolific career since 1961, publishing over 50 books, including 18 novels, 18 poetry collections, and numerous works of short fiction and children's books. - The announcement comes as a television adaptation of her 2019 sequel to *The Handmaid's Tale*, titled *The Testaments*, is in the works.
