Sabre Rebuilds Around AI-First Travel Platform
Travel technology firm Sabre unveiled a "once-in-a-generation" company rebuild centered on an AI-native cloud platform. The new architecture is designed for what Sabre calls the "agentic era," focusing on intelligent retailing and autonomous workflows for the travel industry.
The strategic shift is spearheaded by CEO Kurt Ekert, who joined Sabre as president in January 2022 and was appointed CEO in April 2023. Ekert's background includes leadership roles at CWT, Travelport, and Orbitz, with a track record of focusing on digital transformation. This move positions Sabre to compete more effectively against primary rivals like Amadeus IT Group and Travelport in the global distribution system (GDS) market. The company aims to leverage its new AI-powered platform, Sabre Mosaicâ„¢, to innovate beyond the constraints of legacy architectures that have long defined the travel industry. The new platform is built on Google's AI technology, specifically Gemini, and is integrated with Sabre's expansive Travel Data Cloud, which contains over 50 petabytes of data. This AI-native infrastructure is designed to support intelligent retailing and automated servicing, moving beyond simple responses to proactively manage travel scenarios. Leading the technological overhaul is Garry Wiseman, who was appointed President of Product & Engineering. His experience in digital customer experiences and product management at companies like Dell, Salesforce, and Microsoft is central to Sabre's product-led strategy. Financially, Sabre has been focused on strengthening its position. The company reported revenues of $715 million in the third quarter of 2025, an increase from the previous year. This investment in technology comes as Sabre also works on deleveraging its balance sheet, having paid down significant debt. The concept of an "agentic era" refers to the rise of autonomous AI agents that can proactively manage tasks. In travel, this means an AI could independently monitor for disruptions, rebook flights, and adjust hotel reservations without direct human prompting, representing a significant shift from reactive chatbots to proactive digital assistants. This platform overhaul follows Sabre's multi-year migration to the Google Cloud, a move aimed at reducing technology costs and increasing operational efficiency. The company's presence at ITB Berlin 2026 includes multiple speaking sessions by executives, including Wiseman, to detail the technical shifts and new capabilities.
