Gaudí as chocolate art

Ten master pastry chefs have reinterpreted Gaudí as elaborate chocolate Easter eggs on display in Park Güell’s Sala Hipòstila — the exhibit runs through April 9 and plays Gaudí’s mosaics, shapes and colors into edible art. It’s a fun crossover for food lovers who also want a design‑led Barcelona detour this spring. (eldebate.com)

The show, billed as "Gaudí en xocolata", was organised by the Gremi de Pastisseria de Barcelona in collaboration with Park Güell’s management company BSM as part of Barcelona’s Gaudí‑year and World Capital of Architecture programming for 2026. (parkguell.barcelona; elpais.com) Organisers required participants to work from a 60‑centimetre‑diameter chocolate egg template, and at least one pasteler described building a piece made and sustained entirely of chocolate with no internal frame. (lavanguardia.com; elpais.com) Named participants include World Chocolate Masters champion Lluc Crusellas, Adán Sáez of Xocosave (Riudoms) with "L'ou de la Creació", Miquel Chamorro (Brunells 1852) with "La casa del guarda", Carles Carreras (Xocolateria Núria, Terrassa) with "¿Dragón o salamandra?" and Nacho Vera with "Ondulació Viva‑Trencadís". (lavanguardia.com; mundodeportivo.com) A specialist committee selected the ten works from an open call to guild members, visitors can vote for their favourite by scanning an on‑site QR code, and the piece with the most public votes will be transferred to the Museu de la Xocolata in Barcelona. (elpais.com; mundodeportivo.com) Organisers say the remaining creations will be handed out in a ceremony with nearby schools, and the Park Güell programme ties into the site’s 2026 centenary as a public park (first opened to the public on April 26, 1926).
