New Edition Extends Tour Lineup
New Edition is extending its 'The Way' arena tour with six new dates due to overwhelming demand. The legendary R&B group is joined by Boyz II Men and Toni Braxton, making it a powerhouse showcase of classic and contemporary R&B talent. The extension gives more fans across the country opportunities to experience the nostalgia and vocal excellence these acts are known for.
The overwhelming demand for New Edition's "The Way" tour is a continuation of their recent successful outings. Their "Legacy Tour" in 2023, which also featured Keith Sweat and Guy, grossed an impressive $35.7 million from 31 shows. This followed their 2022 "The Culture Tour," which earned $37.1 million across 30 dates, demonstrating the group's consistent and significant drawing power. New Edition's journey began in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston in 1978, where childhood friends formed a group inspired by The Jackson 5. The classic lineup consists of Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill, and Ralph Tresvant. Their influence is widely recognized, as they are considered pioneers of the modern boy band movement. The group's history includes several hiatuses and successful spin-offs. In 1989, members Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, and Ronnie DeVoe formed the hip-hop and R&B trio Bell Biv DeVoe, known for their hit song "Poison." Concurrently, Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill also launched successful solo careers. Boyz II Men, who join the tour, are the best-selling R&B group of all time, with 64 million albums sold. The trio from Philadelphia holds the distinction of being one of the few acts to replace themselves at the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, with their hits "I'll Make Love to You" and "On Bended Knee." The tour's powerhouse lineup is completed by Toni Braxton, a seven-time Grammy winner. Her 1996 album "Secrets" featured the global smash "Un-Break My Heart," which spent 11 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Beyond music, Braxton made history as the first Black actress to play Belle in a Broadway production of "Beauty and the Beast."
