Harry Styles Crashes SNL Monologue

Harry Styles upstaged Ryan Gosling during Saturday Night Live's opening monologue, with cameras and audience focusing on the pop star instead of the host. Styles is set to host SNL next week, making his surprise appearance a playful preview that had Gosling struggling to maintain control of his own segment.

This was Ryan Gosling's fourth time hosting the late-night sketch show, where he has developed a reputation for breaking character and laughing during sketches. The surprise appearance by Harry Styles played into this, with cast member Mikey Day giving a visibly giggling Gosling a kiss on the cheek. Styles' appearance serves as a promotion for his own upcoming gig on March 14, where he will pull double duty as both host and musical guest for the second time. This will mark his seventh time overall on the "Saturday Night Live" stage, including three appearances with his former band One Direction, a solo musical guest spot in 2017, and his first time hosting and performing in 2019. The impromptu appearance was to promote Styles' fourth studio album, "Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally.," which was released on March 6. Following his SNL duties, he is scheduled to begin his "Together, Together" international tour, which includes a 30-show residency at Madison Square Garden. The playful disruption involved the SNL production crew, with one camera operator shown wearing an "I ❤️ Harry" T-shirt and repeatedly putting the spotlight on Styles instead of Gosling. The bit culminated with Gosling attempting to sing Styles' 2017 hit "Sign of the Times," which is featured in Gosling's new film, "Project Hail Mary," before the rest of the cast joined them on stage.
