BYD Great Tang 950km Range
BYD unveiled official images of the Great Tang D-segment flagship SUV ahead of its March 5 release. The all-electric version promises luxury interior appointments and a staggering range of up to 950 km.
The Great Tang is built on BYD's new "Super e" platform, which supports a 1000-volt architecture. This high-voltage system allows for ultra-fast charging, with the company's flash charging technology reportedly adding 200 km of range in just 5 minutes. The platform will be a key component of BYD's expanding lineup of high-end electric vehicles. Powering the Great Tang is the second generation of BYD's proprietary Blade Battery. This new iteration of their lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery is expected to have a significantly higher energy density, contributing to the vehicle's long range and a lifespan of over 1.2 million kilometers. The Blade Battery is also known for its safety, having passed rigorous tests without catching fire. Both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the Great Tang will be available. The RWD models will offer either 300 kW (402 hp) or 370 kW (496 hp) of power. The AWD variant adds a 215 kW front motor for a combined output that promises a 0-100 km/h acceleration in as little as 4.9 seconds. In addition to the all-electric models, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the Great Tang will be offered, featuring BYD's DM-p technology. This system prioritizes electric power, using a 1.5L turbocharged engine primarily as a generator to extend range, while dual motors provide a combined output of over 489 horsepower for strong performance. The Great Tang will be equipped with BYD's "God's Eye" advanced driver-assistance system, which utilizes a roof-mounted LiDAR for enhanced perception. The vehicle also features a DiSus-P Intelligent Damping Body Control System and rear-wheel steering to improve handling and maneuverability for the large SUV. With a length of over 5.2 meters, the Great Tang will offer spacious six or seven-seat configurations. Inside, it will feature a luxurious interior with up to four screens, catering to the growing demand for premium, tech-focused electric vehicles in the Chinese market. The expected price is between 200,000 and 300,000 yuan ($28,700 to $43,000 USD).
