Metallica Triples Vegas Sphere Shows

Metallica expanded their "Life Burns Faster" Sphere residency from 8 to 24 shows, stretching into 2027. General ticket sales opened March 6 at 10 a.m. PT for the high-tech venue known for immersive visuals and acoustics. This marks the band's largest commitment to a single venue and signals their ongoing creative energy in live performance.

The residency was sparked by drummer Lars Ulrich's visit to the Sphere for U2's opening night in 2023; he reportedly decided just "12 seconds" into the show that Metallica had to play the venue. The band is bringing its "No Repeat Weekend" format from their M72 World Tour, meaning the setlists for the Thursday and Saturday shows each weekend will be completely different. The $2.3 billion Sphere is the most expensive entertainment venue in Las Vegas, boasting the world's largest and highest-resolution LED screen that wraps around the audience of 18,600. Its audio system features 167,000 computer-controlled speakers, and 10,000 of the seats are equipped with haptic technology and 4D effects like scents and wind. Metallica follows a string of rock legends in the high-tech dome. U2 christened the venue with a 40-show run that grossed over $244 million, selling more than 660,000 tickets. Other notable rock acts who have held residencies include Phish, Dead & Company, and the Eagles. This extended stay in one city marks a significant departure for a band that has relentlessly toured the globe for over four decades, playing more than 1,600 shows across all seven continents. Their previous tours, like the "Wherever We May Roam" and "World Magnetic" tours, lasted for 14 to 20 months with over 170 concerts each. The initial block of eight shows announced in late February 2026 was met with what the band called "unbelievable demand," leading them to first add six more dates before expanding to the current total of 24 performances.
