Michelin added nine New York City restaurants to its 2026 New York guide on April 15, putting five Brooklyn spots and four Manhattan spots into contention for later awards. (guide.michelin.com, timeout.com) The new Brooklyn additions are Entre Nous in Clinton Hill, Los Burritos Juárez in Fort Greene, Bong in Crown Heights, Vato in Park Slope and I Cavallini in Williamsburg. Manhattan’s new entries are Le Chêne in Greenwich Village, Hwaro in Midtown West, Elcielo New York in NoMad and Cove in SoHo. (guide.michelin.com, timeout.com) Michelin said it adds new restaurants to the selection twice a year, before revealing Bib Gourmands and Stars at its annual ceremony later in the year. The guide marks these places with a “New” symbol on its website and app. (guide.michelin.com, aol.com) That means this week’s list is not a star announcement. Michelin said restaurants added to the guide are already on inspectors’ radar and can later be promoted to Bib Gourmand or Star status. (aol.com, guide.michelin.com) Brooklyn drew the largest share of the new picks, with neighborhoods from Clinton Hill to Williamsburg represented in the April update. Time Out reported that reservations are likely to tighten as the fall ceremony approaches. (timeout.com, guide.michelin.com) Michelin’s own writeups show how wide the range is. Los Burritos Juárez was cited for border-style burritos from El Paso and Ciudad Juárez, Bong for Cambodian small plates, Vato for house-made flour tortilla burritos and I Cavallini for an Italian menu from chef Nick Curtola. (guide.michelin.com) The Manhattan additions span a different set of formats: Le Chêne for classic French cooking, Hwaro for chef Sungchul Shim’s 22-seat counter, Elcielo New York for a Latin America- and Colombia-linked tasting menu, and Cove for tasting and à la carte service. (guide.michelin.com, timeout.com) Michelin said its inspectors judge restaurants on ingredient quality, flavor, mastery of cooking techniques, the personality of the chef in the cuisine and consistency across visits. Those standards will shape which of these nine moves beyond a “New” label when the 2026 New York ceremony arrives later this fall. (aol.com, guide.michelin.com)
