Tesla's Cybercab Enters Production Queue
Tesla's Cybercab—a two-seater Robotaxi—entered mass production queue, with public road testing ramping up in Texas.
The Cybercab is purpose-built for full autonomy, lacking a steering wheel or pedals. This design minimizes operational costs, focusing on a self-driving platform to carry passengers. Tesla's production line at Giga Texas has been visibly increasing output week by week, moving into higher volume in early March. CEO Elon Musk has stated the initial manufacturing phase will begin in April 2026. However, Musk has cautioned that the production ramp-up will be slow initially. The Cybercab prototypes have been spotted testing on public roads in Austin, Texas, and Silicon Valley. Some prototypes have been observed with steering wheels, standard for testing to allow a safety driver to take control if needed. Tesla is aiming for a high production volume, potentially reaching 2 million Cybercab units per year across multiple factories. The "unboxed" production method is expected to cut production costs in half. Analysts are optimistic about Tesla's robotaxi business, with one projecting revenue could climb to $250 billion by 2035. This projection is based on assumptions of 30% autonomous vehicle penetration and a 50% market share for Tesla.
