Flavia de Luce Movie Starts Filming

Principal photography has started on *Flavia*, the feature film adaptation of Alan Bradley's beloved Flavia de Luce mysteries. Sherlock star Martin Freeman leads the cast alongside Molly Belle Wright, with a first-look image now released. The film has been long-awaited by fans of the young detective series.

The film adapts *The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie*, the first of Alan Bradley's 11 Flavia de Luce novels. The series follows a brilliant 11-year-old amateur detective and chemist with a passion for poisons in 1950s England. The debut novel won numerous awards, including the Agatha Award and the CWA Debut Dagger Award. The supporting cast includes veteran actors Toby Jones and Jonathan Pryce. The screenplay was written by Susan Coyne and is directed by Bharat Nalluri, who previously worked together on *The Man Who Invented Christmas*. The path to the screen has been a long one for the young detective. Director Sam Mendes initially optioned the television rights to the book series back in 2012. Young Australian actress Molly Belle Wright, who plays Flavia, is known for roles in *True Spirit* and was the youngest person to deliver a mainstage TED Talk. Her character, Flavia, uses her knowledge of chemistry to solve crimes in her seemingly quiet English village. Martin Freeman is also slated to appear in several other upcoming films, including the psychological thriller *The Adam Trials* and the WWII drama *Pretend I'm Not Here*.
