Zifo, Maze Therapeutics Partner on Data

Maze Therapeutics is partnering with Zifo to manage, store, and scale its large, heterogeneous biobank datasets. The collaboration aims to build an AI-ready data infrastructure to enable precision medicine through AI-powered scientific workflows. This partnership highlights the increasing need for robust enterprise informatics to handle complex data for drug development.

- Maze Therapeutics' clinical pipeline, which this data partnership will support, is focused on kidney and metabolic diseases, with lead programs including MZE829, an oral APOL1 inhibitor in Phase 2 trials for APOL1-mediated kidney disease, and MZE782, an SLC6A19 inhibitor entering Phase 2 for Phenylketonuria (PKU) and chronic kidney disease. - The collaboration is centered on leveraging Maze's proprietary "Compass" platform, which integrates genetic variant discovery and functionalization to identify novel drug targets; the goal is to overcome data fragmentation from large biobanks like the UK Biobank. - Zifo is a global informatics service provider specializing in R&D, clinical, and manufacturing domains for life sciences, offering expertise in Computer System Validation (CSV) and compliance with GxP standards, which is critical for building robust, scalable data systems. - The partnership addresses a key industry bottleneck by creating an integrated system to seamlessly connect genetic signals with biological pathways and phenotypes, replacing a traditionally disjointed and manual process for researchers. - Maze Therapeutics is backed by significant venture capital, having raised over $496 million from investors including ARCH Venture Partners, Third Rock Ventures, Frazier Life Sciences, and Matrix Capital Management, indicating strong financial support for its data-intensive approach to drug discovery. - In the competitive landscape for APOL1-mediated kidney disease, Maze's MZE829 will be up against other therapeutic candidates, most notably inaxaplin from Vertex Pharmaceuticals, which is currently in Phase 3 testing. - Zifo has a broad client base of over 190 science-focused organizations across the pharmaceutical, biotech, and chemical industries, providing services that include R&D informatics, data science consulting, and manufacturing and quality informatics.
