Olivia Rodrigo Tops Streaming Era

Spotify named Olivia Rodrigo's "drivers license" the #1 pop song of the streaming era, while The Weeknd became the first artist to hold over 100 million monthly listeners for three straight years. The Weeknd and Ariana Grande are teasing a collaboration, and Cardi B sold out seven dates on her 'Little Miss Drama Tour'. Taylor Swift continues to dominate the latest Billboard Pop Songs chart at #1 with "Opalite", followed by Olivia Dean's "Man I Need" and Bruno Mars' "I Just Might".

Spotify's "Greatest Pop Songs of the Streaming Era" list prioritized cultural impact over pure streaming numbers for the period beginning in 2015. Following Olivia Rodrigo's record-breaking 2021 ballad were Chappell Roan's "Pink Pony Club," Taylor Swift's sleeper hit "Cruel Summer," and Dua Lipa's "Don't Start Now." The Weeknd first crossed the 100 million monthly listener threshold on Spotify on February 27, 2023, becoming the first artist in the platform's history to do so. The milestone was partly fueled by the viral success of his "Die For You" remix featuring Ariana Grande. His 2020 track "Blinding Lights" remains the most-streamed song of all time on Spotify. A potential new track would be the fifth official collaboration between The Weeknd and Ariana Grande. Their partnership began with "Love Me Harder" in 2014, followed by "Off the Table" in 2020, and two chart-topping remixes for "Save Your Tears" in 2021 and "Die For You" in 2023. Cardi B's 'Little Miss Drama Tour' is the Grammy-winning rapper's first-ever headlining arena tour. The 30+ date North American run supports her highly anticipated sophomore album, "Am I The Drama?", and includes stops at iconic venues like Madison Square Garden in New York. Taylor Swift's "Opalite" is the second single from her album "The Life of a Showgirl" and recently became her 14th No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. The achievement ties her with Rihanna for the third-most chart-toppers in history, trailing only The Beatles and Mariah Carey. British singer Olivia Dean's "Man I Need" has become a global breakout hit from her second album, "The Art of Loving." The track previously secured the rare feat of topping both the UK's official singles and albums charts simultaneously, a first for a British female solo artist since Adele in 2021. Bruno Mars' "I Just Might" is the lead single from his forthcoming solo album, "The Romantic." The disco-pop track has already topped several Billboard charts, including the Hot 100 and the overall Radio Songs chart.
