Infant Rescued from Lake Michigan

An infant was rescued after a stroller rolled into Lake Michigan near the downtown area. Chicago police confirmed the incident, which has become a high-profile local news story.

- The incident occurred around 3 p.m. at Belmont Harbor, located in the 3200 block of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive, after a powerful gust of wind blew the stroller containing the 8-month-old into the water. - A 30-year-old man named Lio Cundiff immediately jumped into the frigid water to save the baby, despite not knowing how to swim. - Cundiff held the stroller afloat, keeping the baby's head above water until other bystanders could offer assistance. - Another man, 43-year-old airline pilot Luis Kapost, threw his jacket to Cundiff to help pull him and the infant toward safety, while others threw a life ring. - The baby was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital for observation and was reported to be in good condition. - Cundiff was also hospitalized at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center to be monitored for a fast heart rate but was expected to recover. - The woman with the stroller was believed to be Ukrainian, and a language barrier made communication difficult at the scene.
