Flying Lotus and Ty Dolla $ign Drop New Projects
New Friday releases are dominating with Flying Lotus dropping "Big Mama" alongside Ty Dolla $ign's "girl music vol. 1" and Cash Cobain's "WISH." The releases are generating buzz in hip-hop circles with 385 views and growing traction. Gnarls Barkley also joined the Friday drop wave with their final album "Atlanta."
Flying Lotus's new EP, "BIG MAMA," is described as an "experimental, maximalist, hyperfast, electronic burst of energy." The seven tracks are packed into a single, continuous composition with no loops, a project he created over two months as a release after scoring his film *Ash*. This marks his first release on his own Brainfeeder label, which he founded nearly two decades ago and has released music by artists like Thundercat and Kamasi Washington. Ty Dolla $ign's "girl music vol. 1" is a return to his R&B roots, with a sound inspired by a DJ set he heard at a restaurant in New York City. The six-track EP features collaborations with R&B legends Brandy and Ronald Isley, with the latter appearing on a track that interpolates The Isley Brothers' 1995 song "Down Low (Nobody Has to Know)." This project follows his 2025 full-length album, *TYCOON*. Bronx rapper and producer Cash Cobain is considered the primary architect of the "sexy drill" subgenre. His new single "Wish," however, pivots away from that sound towards a darker, militant trap production with booming bass. The track is expected to be part of a forthcoming album titled *Party With Slizzy*. The new Gnarls Barkley album, "Atlanta," is the duo's third and final record, arriving after an 18-year hiatus. The project, named for CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse's shared hometown, was first teased back in 2013. During their time apart, Green released four solo albums, while Danger Mouse has won six Grammy Awards and produced for artists like Adele and Norah Jones.
