Bills Trade Johnson

The Bills are trading CB Taron Johnson to the Raiders, per reports. This follows a busy NFL offseason with moves including Lions' David Montgomery to Texans, Chiefs' Trent McDuffie to Rams, and Bears' DJ Moore to Bills. Free agency is reshuffling rosters across the league.

Johnson's departure from Buffalo comes after the Bills had initially announced they would release the veteran cornerback to create salary cap space. Instead, they found a last-minute trade partner in the Raiders. The deal involves a swap of late-round draft picks, with the Bills sending a seventh-round pick along with Johnson to Las Vegas in exchange for a sixth-round pick. A fourth-round draft pick by the Bills in 2018, Johnson spent his entire eight-year career in Buffalo, earning a second-team All-Pro selection in 2023. He was a key starter in the Bills' nickel defense and is perhaps best remembered for his 101-yard interception return for a touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens in the 2020 divisional playoffs. His production saw a slight dip this past season due to a groin injury that limited him to 13 games. The Raiders acquire Johnson to fill a significant need in their secondary, specifically at slot cornerback. Johnson is under contract through 2027 and is set to have a base salary of around $8.1 million in 2026. Las Vegas is looking to bolster a cornerback group that saw struggles from younger players last season. The trade for DJ Moore provides Bills quarterback Josh Allen with a much-needed veteran receiving weapon. Buffalo sent a 2026 second-round pick to the Chicago Bears in exchange for Moore and a 2026 fifth-round selection. Moore has recorded over 1,000 receiving yards in four of his eight NFL seasons. In another major offseason move, the Kansas City Chiefs traded two-time All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams sent a significant haul of draft picks to the Chiefs, including their 2026 first-round pick (No. 29 overall). Just days after the trade, the Rams signed McDuffie to a four-year, $124 million extension, making him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history. The Detroit Lions parted ways with running back David Montgomery, trading him to the Houston Texans. In return, the Lions received offensive lineman Juice Scruggs, a fourth-round pick, and a 2027 seventh-round selection. Montgomery's role in Detroit had diminished with the emergence of Jahmyr Gibbs, and the Texans targeted him to improve their running game, which ranked 29th in yards per carry last season.
