New Regional Mexican Restaurant to Open in Burlingame
A new restaurant named Amado is scheduled to open in Burlingame in March. The establishment will focus on regional cuisines from Mexico, featuring dishes such as cochinita pibil from the Yucatan region.
- The restaurant, located at 1100 Burlingame Ave., is the fifth establishment from the Dominguez family, which has been operating Mexican restaurants in the Bay Area for nearly 40 years. - Chef Gloria Dominguez will run the kitchen with her daughter Erika, while her son Alfonso is responsible for the interior design and beverage program. - The menu aims to showcase the diversity of Mexican cuisine by featuring dishes from various regions, a departure from the more region-specific Mexican restaurants that have recently become popular. - Specific menu items will include scallop aguachiles from Baja California, chiles en nogada from Puebla, and goat birria and tortas ahogadas from Chef Dominguez's native Jalisco. - Amado's interior is designed to resemble a contemporary restaurant in Mexico City and will have a seating capacity of 126. - The family's previous notable restaurant was Tamarindo Antojeria in Oakland, which specialized in "antojitos" or small plates like flautas and tostadas, and closed in 2019. - A longtime friend of the family, Francisco Perez, who operates the Burlingame location of the Peruvian rotisserie Limón across the street, is also involved in the new venture. - While the initial summary mentioned a March opening, more recent reports indicate the restaurant is slated to open in February.
