Maine's signature food festival was just ranked No. 2 in the nation by USA Today [https://q1065.fm/ixp/495/p/top-maine-food-festival-2026/]. Also, the Taste of Buffalo and National Buffalo Chicken Wing Festival made the top 10 for Western New York [https://thenew961.com/buffalo-festivals-usa-today-best-10/]. What makes the Maine festival so special?
The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival in Dover-Foxcroft earned the No. 2 spot in USA Today's "Best Specialty Food Festival" in the "10 Best Readers Choice Awards". The festival is entering its 17th year and will be held at the Piscataquis Valley Fairgrounds for the second time. On June 13th, the town transforms into the "Whoopie Pie capital of the world". The festival began in 2009 and has become a family and community tradition. For just $6 (and free for kids 12 and under), attendees can enjoy live music, games, arts and crafts, and dozens of bakers offering whoopie pie flavors from all over New England. In addition to the many whoopie pies, there is also a "Earn Your Whoopie Pie 3K Race/Walk," and a whoopie pie eating contest. Meanwhile, in Western New York, the Taste of Buffalo is celebrating its 43rd year in 2026. The festival takes place July 11-12 on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo and has been called the "largest two-day food festival" in the United States. Over 50 vendors will be in attendance. Also in Buffalo, the National Buffalo Wing Festival will occur on August 29th and 30th at Sahlen Field. The festival is moving to the weekend before Labor Day due to a scheduling conflict and will feature over 20 wing vendors. Since 2002, the National Buffalo Wing Festival has donated over $525,000 to local charities.
