La Puebla de Arganzón and Condado de Treviño together form the enclave of Treviño, a part of the Burgos province surrounded by the Basque province of Álava. This unique geographic situation has been a point of contention between the governments of Castile and León and the Basque Country. In 1998, a referendum showed that 68% of voters wanted to join Álava. La Puebla de Arganzón obtained its community charter in 1191. However, historians debate whether it was granted by Alfonso VIII of Castile or Sancho VI of Navarre. Archaeological findings suggest the area was inhabited as far back as 871. City breaks have surged in popularity, becoming one of the fastest-growing segments in global tourism. Once a primarily European trend, urban getaways now flourish worldwide. A 2026 survey indicated that 86% of British adults plan to take a holiday abroad, with city breaks doubling in popularity from 18% to 38% in just two years. Rome is the most popular city break destination in Europe, followed by Paris. Short trips of one to three nights account for over 56 percent of all holiday trips. Boutique hotels are well-suited to cater to city breakers looking for local culture, cuisine, and creativity.
