CLAY LA returns to Craft Contemporary in Los Angeles this weekend, with a Friday preview night and a two-day ceramic market in the museum courtyard. (craftcontemporary.org) The event runs Friday, April 24, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., then Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 5814 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles. (pbssocal.org) (craftcontemporary.org) Friday’s preview costs $20 for the general public and $15 for members, with complimentary refreshments, music and one opportunity-drawing ticket included with admission. Saturday is included with $9 museum admission, and Sunday is pay-what-you-wish. (craftcontemporary.org) Craft Contemporary says this is the ninth edition of CLAY LA, its signature ceramic marketplace and fundraiser, built around direct sales and face-to-face contact between artists and buyers. PBS SoCal’s weekly events guide highlighted it as one of the region’s picks for April 20-26. (craftcontemporary.org) (pbssocal.org) The museum frames the event as part of a larger ceramics program that includes workshops, sales and exhibitions, including its upcoming fourth clay biennial, “tierra.” It says hundreds of artists and thousands of visitors have taken part in CLAY LA over the years. (craftcontemporary.org) This year’s market mixes emerging and established makers from across Los Angeles, with artists including Angel Prudencio, Chunmei Ceramics, FHAR Studio, Greg Lowe Arts, Hugh Remar Los Angeles, People’s Pottery Project and Tierra del Sol. (craftcontemporary.org) The weekend also includes free drop-in air-dry clay activities from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with materials donated by Laguna Clay & Glaze Co. Discover Los Angeles says Seedy and Wawa Coffee Stand will sell food and drinks on the weekend market days. (craftcontemporary.org) (discoverlosangeles.com) The fundraiser element continues through a daily opportunity drawing tied to selected works from participating artists. Additional entries cost $5 in person, and Craft Contemporary says winners will be contacted on April 29 for in-person pickup. (craftcontemporary.org) For Los Angeles shoppers, the pitch is simple: arrive Friday for first access, or wait for the lower-cost public market on Saturday and Sunday. Either way, the museum is using ceramics to turn a spring shopping weekend into a fundraiser for its programs. (pbssocal.org) (craftcontemporary.org)
