The restaurant's design is rooted in Southeast Asian heritage, aiming to be a new culinary destination in District Detroit.

Sunda New Asian is located at 33 W. Columbia Street, situated in District Detroit, near Comerica Park and the Fox Theatre. The restaurant seats over 200 people and includes a vibrant patio. Award-winning restaurateur Billy Dec, also an Emmy-winning TV personality, founded Sunda. The restaurant's menu is inspired by Dec's Filipino heritage and travels through Southeast Asia. Sunda Detroit's menu features dishes from Japan, China, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Signature items include Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, Oxtail Potstickers, and Miso Glazed Sea Bass. The 6,000-square-foot space was designed by Studio K, with help from McIntosh Poris Associates and Sachse Construction. The interior blends Tokyo street style with Southeast Asian design, incorporating floral installations inspired by the Philippines and Japan. District Detroit is an ongoing development project aiming to revitalize downtown Detroit with sports, entertainment, and residential areas. Olympia Development and Related Companies are partnering on the project, investing $1.5 billion to construct 10 new buildings. The development aims to create 12,000 construction jobs and 6,000 permanent positions.
