An $8 Burger is Now Available in Downtown SF
A San Francisco restaurant, Hamburguesa Bar, is now offering an $8 burger in the city's notoriously expensive downtown area. A review praises the offering as a rare find, highlighting its quality and value in a premium market.
Located at 78 Second Street, Hamburguesa Bar is a venture from owners Lane Ford and Alvin Luna, who are also behind the SoMa pizzeria Pie Punks. The duo's new establishment aims to provide a low-fuss, high-value hangout for the downtown crowd, intentionally avoiding QR code and kiosk ordering to maintain a retro, personal feel. The restaurant's menu features both thin, griddled smash-burgers and more substantial 6-to-8-ounce charbroiled tavern burgers. While the priciest burger on the menu is $20, and a deal for a burger, fries, and a 16-ounce beer is available for $23, the eatery offers several burgers at the notable $8 price point. Specifically, the $8 "Classica" burger includes a beef patty with mayo, ketchup, mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, jalapeƱos, and yellow cheese. In addition to the classic beef option, both a "Pollo" (chicken) and a "Vegetariana" burger are available for the same price, and all come with a side of "papas" (chips). This pricing stands in contrast to the broader downtown San Francisco market, where the average cost of a fast-food meal was reported to be $13.88 in a May 2025 analysis. Hamburguesa Bar's approach focuses on providing an unpretentious, affordable alternative to the area's more anonymous and often more expensive fast-casual chains.
