Sex Pistols Reschedule North American Dates
Punk icons the Sex Pistols and Frank Carter have officially rescheduled their 2026 North American tour dates after previous postponements. The revised schedule ensures fans will finally get to see these legendary acts live later this year. This marks another chapter in the band's notoriously unpredictable touring history.
The Sex Pistols' original career lasted just two and a half years, from 1975 to 1978. In that short time, they released only one studio album, "Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols," which is considered a seminal record in the development of punk rock. The band's implosion occurred spectacularly during their first U.S. tour in January 1978. The tour was plagued by internal conflicts, drug use, and chaotic performances, culminating in frontman Johnny Rotten asking the crowd at their final gig in San Francisco, "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?" before walking off stage and quitting the band. Managed by the provocative impresario Malcolm McLaren, the band's public appearances often ended in mayhem. They sparked a national outcry in the UK after a profanity-laden interview on live television in 1976, and their single "God Save the Queen" was banned by the BBC and most independent radio stations, making it the most censored record in British history. The classic lineup consisted of Johnny Rotten, guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook, and bassist Glen Matlock. Matlock was replaced by Sid Vicious in early 1977, a move that amplified their punk image but added to the band's volatility. Vicious died of a heroin overdose in 1979. Frank Carter, who is fronting this iteration of the band, is a veteran of the UK punk scene. He first gained notoriety as the ferocious frontman for the hardcore punk band Gallows, which formed in 2005, before starting his current project, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, in 2015. While their initial run was brief, the Sex Pistols have reunited for tours in the past. The original members, including Glen Matlock, first got back together in 1996 for the successful "Filthy Lucre Tour" and have performed together intermittently in the years since.
