MLB Rule Changes?

No major MLB rule changes for 2026, but World Baseball Classic tiebreaker rules are in the spotlight after Team USA's loss to Italy [https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/news/world-baseball-classic-tiebreaker-rules-2026-wbc-pool-play/4b18f88a3e5981836af1c51a].

The World Baseball Classic uses complex tiebreaker rules when teams have the same win-loss record in pool play. The primary tiebreaker is head-to-head record, but if three or more teams are tied, it goes to the team that won against all other teams they are tied with. If that doesn't resolve the tie, the next tiebreakers are based on runs allowed and defensive outs. For the 2026 MLB season, the Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) challenge system will be implemented. Batters, pitchers, or catchers can challenge an umpire's ball or strike call, with each team getting two challenges per game. A team retains the challenge if the challenge is successful. Umpires will be enforcing rules about base coaches needing to stay within their designated boxes while the pitcher is on the rubber. A violation results in a warning, and further violations can lead to ejection. Also, baserunners can't make contact with fielders to try and draw an obstruction call.
