Apple's Studio Display XDR gets color upgrade.

Apple's Studio Display XDR will support Full Calibration and the new Apple CMF 2026 color measurement standard announced.

Full Calibration, coming in a future macOS update, will let users recalibrate key display characteristics using professional measurement tools. This includes adjusting white point, primary color coordinates, luminance, and gamma response with a compatible spectroradiometer. It's aimed at pro color workflows needing sustained accuracy or specific production environment matching. Apple CMF 2026 is a new system developed to improve display measurement and calibration. It addresses limitations in the CIE 1931 color matching functions, a nearly century-old model. Apple says the new system improves visual consistency by more closely matching how humans actually perceive color. Each Studio Display XDR is factory calibrated using Apple CMF 2026. However, the display continues to support the CIE 1931 system through reference presets for compatibility with existing pro workflows. Apple is also working with the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) to develop a broader industry standard based on Apple CMF 2026.
