Kansas City Sushi Restaurant Expands to Johnson County
A popular sushi restaurant in Kansas City is expanding its operations with a new location in Johnson County. The expansion reflects growing demand for its cuisine within the broader Kansas City metropolitan area. The new establishment will bring the restaurant's offerings to a new customer base south of the city.
- The new establishment is named Umami Revolving Sushi and it is located at 8180 W. 135th St. in Overland Park, in a space formerly occupied by a First Watch brunch restaurant. - This is a new concept from the family that owns Sakura Sushi Train in Shawnee. The owners are brothers Tom Nguyen and Chinh Nguyen. - A key feature of the new restaurant is a conveyor belt that will deliver sushi to customers at their tables. - In addition to sushi, the menu includes a boba tea bar and will eventually expand to feature Vietnamese cuisine like pho and spring rolls, which are not available at the Sakura location. - The owners previously operated a Sakura location in Olathe for about ten years, but it closed in March 2025. - One of the popular items at the new location is the "KC" roll, which consists of shrimp tempura, avocado, and cream cheese, and is topped with fried crab meat, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. - The restaurant's hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for dinner Monday through Thursday, with extended dinner hours until 9:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Sunday hours are 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for dinner.
