Metallica confirms Vegas Sphere residency
Metallica just confirmed a groundbreaking residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas — the first hard rock band to headline the state-of-the-art venue. Fans can expect a series of immersive, visually spectacular shows with other major acts scheduled to follow Metallica's lead.
The "Life Burns Faster" residency will consist of eight shows across four weekends in October 2026. Following a "No Repeat Weekend" format, the band will perform entirely different setlists on the Thursday and Saturday of each weekend, ensuring a unique experience for fans who attend both nights. General ticket sales are scheduled to begin on March 6, 2026, with a series of presales for fan club members starting as early as March 2. Drummer Lars Ulrich stated that the idea for the residency came to him within seconds of seeing U2's opening night at the venue in 2023, calling it "completely uncharted territory." The $2.3 billion Sphere is the world's largest spherical structure, standing 366 feet tall. Its interior features a 160,000-square-foot, 16K resolution wraparound LED screen, the largest and highest-resolution in the world. The venue has a capacity of 20,000 and boasts a state-of-the-art sound system with 1,600 speakers capable of beamforming technology to deliver targeted audio. To enhance the immersive experience, 10,000 of the Sphere's seats are equipped with haptic technology, and the venue can generate 4D effects like wind and scents. The exterior is also a massive display, covered in 580,000 square feet of programmable LED panels. While hard rock bands have had successful Las Vegas residencies since Mötley Crüe's 2012 run, Metallica is the first in the genre to tackle the technologically advanced Sphere. This move follows residencies by artists like U2, Phish, and Dead & Company, with the Eagles also scheduled for an extended run at the venue.
