Lamborghini Miura's 60th Anniversary

The Geneva Motor Show is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Lamborghini Miura, the car credited with inventing the supercar [https://www.motor1.com/features/789442/lamborghini-miura-history/]. The V12 engine and mid-engine layout revolutionized performance cars.

The Miura debuted at the Geneva Motor Show on March 10, 1966, and its radical design, including a transversely mounted V12 engine behind the driver, broke from GT tradition. The shape, created by Bertone, was instantly iconic. The Miura wasn't initially supported by Ferruccio Lamborghini, who preferred grand touring cars. However, three young engineers secretly developed a prototype that impressed him. The rolling chassis was displayed at the Turin Motor Show in 1965, attracting coachbuilders interested in designing the body. Lamborghini chose Bertone, where Marcello Gandini styled the car. Lamborghini is celebrating the anniversary with events, including a Polo Storico tour in Northern Italy. The Miura's impact extends beyond its production run, influencing subsequent Lamborghini models like the Countach, Diablo, and Aventador.
