Shinji Mikami developing horror game with UE5

Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami's Unbound Studios is developing a new AAA horror-action IP using Unreal Engine 5 NotebookCheck.

Mikami, known for creating the *Resident Evil* series, founded Unbound Studios in May 2023 after leaving Tango Gameworks. The studio aims to create original AAA titles for consoles and PC. Unbound currently has around 50 employees and plans to expand to 150. The staff includes veterans who have worked on series like *Silent Hill*, *Resident Evil*, and *Shadow of the Colossus*. Masato Kimura, who worked with Mikami on *Ghostwire: Tokyo* and *Hi-Fi Rush*, is also part of the team. Kimura has stated that Unbound is aiming for "AAA quality and AA content". He noted the difficulty of matching the scale of overseas AAA titles in Japan, which often require massive budgets and large teams. Unbound is fostering a flexible development style that encourages experimentation.
