Live Oak and Sobrato will meet again on May 8 after splitting two one-run baseball games and a lopsided softball result in Morgan Hill’s spring rivalry. (morganhilltimes.com) The baseball teams traded 4-3 wins in a 48-hour span: Sobrato won at home on April 8, and Live Oak answered at its park on April 10. (morganhilltimes.com) (maxpreps.com) Sobrato then took the softball meeting 11-3 on April 15. Amber Rodriguez pitched 6.2 innings, allowed three runs, and went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs batted in. (maxpreps.com) Morgan Hill Times counted the spring series at 2-1 for Sobrato, with the Bulldogs holding the edge entering the May 8 rematch. Bulldogs infielder-pitcher Liam Bettencourt said after the first baseball win, “We want this town for ourselves.” (morganhilltimes.com) The baseball results also sit inside a tighter league race than a rivalry game usually carries. As of April 24, Sobrato was 13-6 overall and 6-2 in league play, while Live Oak was 7-11-1 overall and 4-3 in league. (maxpreps.com 1) (maxpreps.com 2) In Sobrato’s April 8 baseball win, Eesa Tover threw five strong innings, and Dylan Brown and Bettencourt had two hits each. Live Oak got three hits from Noah Baquiran and two from Nathan Bergstrom. (morganhilltimes.com) Sobrato scratched out runs with pressure as much as power in that game. Aiden Flores scored after a single, walk, steal and wild pitch, and Jackson Raines later tripled before Bettencourt drove him in. (morganhilltimes.com) Live Oak did not let the first loss linger for long. The Acorns beat Sobrato 4-3 on April 10, a result MaxPreps lists as Sobrato’s home team’s last loss to Live Oak before both clubs moved deeper into league play. (maxpreps.com) (morganhilltimes.com) The softball side has its own stakes, even after Sobrato’s big win. Live Oak rebounded to beat Gilroy 4-1 on April 22, while Sobrato fell 3-2 to Leigh on April 24. (maxpreps.com 1) (maxpreps.com 2) That leaves May 8 as more than a rivalry date on the calendar. It is the next chance for Live Oak to square the spring series, and for Sobrato to keep control of it. (morganhilltimes.com)
