9800X3D Hits $409

AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D just dropped to about $409 on Amazon, hitting a new record low for that chip (reports show listings at $409–$409.95). (videocardz.com) (hothardware.com).

AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D has fallen to about $409 on Amazon, its lowest widely reported price since the chip launched in November 2024. (amazon.com) (videocardz.com) VideoCardz and HotHardware both reported Amazon listings at $409 to $409.95 over the weekend of April 11-12, 2026. Amazon’s product page for the processor was live as recently as April 11. (videocardz.com) (hothardware.com) (amazon.com) The 9800X3D launched at $479 on November 7, 2024, so the new price is roughly $70 below launch. TechPowerUp’s coverage of AMD’s launch said the chip would arrive at $479. (techpowerup.com) This is an 8-core, 16-thread desktop processor for the AM5 socket, with a 4.7 gigahertz base clock, up to 5.2 gigahertz boost, and 96 megabytes of Level 3 cache. Amazon’s listing says it uses AMD’s Zen 5 design and second-generation stacked cache aimed at gaming workloads. (amazon.com) (techpowerup.com) That oversized cache is the point of the X3D line: it keeps more game data close to the processor instead of sending it out to slower system memory. TechPowerUp said AMD expands the chip’s on-die cache from 32 megabytes to 96 megabytes with a stacked cache die. (techpowerup.com) Review outlets treated the 9800X3D as a gaming-first part when it launched. TechPowerUp called it AMD’s gaming performance leader, while PC Gamer said the fight for best gaming central processing unit had become “more nuanced” than in the previous generation. (techpowerup.com) (pcgamer.com) The new Amazon price also narrows the gap inside AMD’s own stack. VideoCardz said the newer Ryzen 7 9850X3D was selling for $489 on Amazon, and AMD set that chip’s launch price at $499 in January 2026. (videocardz.com) (hothardware.com) (amazon.com) That leaves the 9800X3D about $80 below the 9850X3D at the reported Amazon prices, even though both are 8-core X3D chips aimed at gamers. HotHardware’s review of the 9850X3D said it is effectively a higher-clocked version of the 9800X3D. (videocardz.com) (hothardware.com) For buyers already on AM5, that drop turns a late-2024 flagship gaming chip into a lower-cost upgrade than it was even during the 2025 holiday discounting, when TechPowerUp reported a cut to $439.99. At $409, the story is no longer whether the 9800X3D is fast; it is how much less buyers now have to pay for it. (techpowerup.com) (videocardz.com)
