Inoue-Nakatani Tokyo Dome Showdown Set
Boxing stars Naoya Inoue and Takuma Nakatani are set to face off on May 2 at the Tokyo Dome in a blockbuster title showdown. This Japanese mega-fight promises to be a highlight of the spring boxing calendar, featuring two of the sport's most technically skilled fighters.
This fight pits two of Japan's pound-for-pound best against each other, both boasting undefeated records. Naoya "The Monster" Inoue enters as the undisputed super-bantamweight champion, holding all four major sanctioning body titles (WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO) and The Ring magazine belt. Junto Nakatani, a world champion in three different weight classes, is moving up to the 122-pound division for a shot at greatness. He previously captured titles at flyweight, super-flyweight, and most recently unified belts at bantamweight before vacating to challenge Inoue. A victory would make him a four-division champion. The Tokyo Dome provides a historic backdrop for this mega-fight. This is a rare scale for a domestic boxing event in Japan, with the venue previously hosting Mike Tyson's major upset loss to Buster Douglas in 1990 and Inoue's own knockout victory over Luis Nery in May 2024 before a crowd of around 50,000. The main event is supported by a stacked undercard featuring more all-Japanese title clashes. In the co-feature, Naoya's younger brother, Takuma Inoue, will defend his WBC bantamweight world title against four-division world champion Kazuto Ioka. A win for the 37-year-old Ioka would make him the first Japanese boxer to conquer five different weight classes.
