Redondo Beach Hosts 52nd Annual Kite Festival

The Redondo Beach Pier hosted its 52nd Annual Kite Festival on Sunday. The community tradition drew large crowds and featured kite-making workshops, professional demonstrations, and food vendors.

The Redondo Beach Kite Festival is one of Southern California's longest-running kite festivals, marking its 52nd year in 2026. This free community event is hosted by the Redondo Pier Association, an organization supported by pier businesses that is dedicated to offering free public events throughout the year. The festival has a rich history connected to local businesses, including the Sunshine Kite Company, which has been a staple on the pier since 1974. The event consistently draws thousands of participants and spectators to the beach south of the pier. This year's festival featured a variety of entertainment, including a performance by the classic rock cover band "1969," a martial arts demonstration by Quest Taekwondo, and a performance by Dance 1. In addition to the kites, the event is known for its festive atmosphere on the pier. Attendees can participate in a number of kite-flying contests with categories that include best hand-made kite, biggest kite, and youngest kite flyer. A popular and recurring feature of the festival is the hot dog on a stick eating contest, sponsored by Craig's.
