New Nashville-Style Restaurant Opens

Double D’s Honky Tonk and Smokehouse is opening in Willoughby, Ohio, in the location formerly occupied by Hola Tacos. The new restaurant is owned by the Dykstra family, who also operate RiverRock in nearby Willoughby Hills. The establishment aims to bring a Nashville-themed dining and entertainment experience to the area.

The new establishment is a long-held dream for owner Dustin Dykstra, a Northeast Ohio native who is returning to the area after a lengthy career in hospitality. Dykstra spent over a decade with the Shake Shack restaurant chain, where he served as an area director overseeing numerous locations. He credits this experience with teaching him the "playbook on how to do it right." The "Double D" in the name is a family affair, referring not only to Dustin but also to his mother and son who share the same initials. The Dykstra family has other business interests in the area; Dustin's mother, Debbie, and sibling, Sarah, were responsible for the construction of RiverRock, a rentable house built from Frank Lloyd Wright's final Usonian home blueprint in Willoughby Hills. The restaurant will occupy an 8,000-square-foot, two-level building at 3941 Erie St., a prominent location that previously housed Hola Tacos and Brim Kitchen. The new owners plan a cosmetic overhaul to create a "Western, honky-tonk kind of space" with a rustic feel, incorporating design elements like reclaimed barn wood, corrugated metal, and whiskey barrels. Diners can expect a menu centered on Southern barbecue, with a wood-fired smoker turning out brisket, pork belly, burnt ends, and pulled meats. The upstairs area will be dedicated to entertainment, featuring a bar and a stage for live music and line dancing, with no regular food service except for casual summer cookouts on the adjoining patio. The previous tenant, Hola Tacos, closed abruptly in February 2026 along with other locations of its parent company, Barroco Grill. The owners cited a need to step back for family health reasons after a period of rapid expansion. This followed a temporary closure of the Willoughby Hola Tacos in early 2024 due to a burst pipe that caused significant water damage.
