Ingrid Michaelson Debuts Notebook Musical Song
Singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson has debuted a new song from The Notebook Musical, marking her expansion from indie-pop into Broadway theatrical songwriting. The musical adaptation is being closely watched as it heads toward a full stage run.
The musical adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' best-selling novel, "The Notebook," officially opened on Broadway at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on March 14, 2024, after beginning previews on February 10 of the same year. The production concluded its run on December 15, 2024. Michaelson collaborated with book writer Bekah Brunstetter, known for her work on the television series "This Is Us," to bring the story to the stage. The production was co-directed by Michael Greif, who has credits including "Dear Evan Hansen" and "Rent," and Schele Williams, with choreography by Katie Spelman. The show's journey to Broadway included a world premiere at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater in the fall of 2022. Prior to that, a workshop reading of the musical was held in 2019 at Vassar College's Powerhouse Theater. The story of Allie and Noah is portrayed by three sets of actors representing them at different stages of their lives. The original Broadway cast featured Jordan Tyson and John Cardoza as the younger couple, Joy Woods and Ryan Vasquez as their middle-aged counterparts, and Maryann Plunkett and Dorian Harewood as the older Allie and Noah. The 1996 novel was famously adapted into a 2004 film starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. The movie was a box office success, grossing over $118 million worldwide on a $29 million budget, and has since become a romantic classic. Following its Broadway engagement, a North American tour for "The Notebook" is scheduled to launch. The tour will bring the production to various cities across the United States.
