Jesse Lingard Joins Brazilian Giants

Former England and Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard has signed for Brazil's Corinthians, reuniting with a former United teammate at the iconic Brazilian club. The signing is viewed as both a bold adventure for Lingard and a coup for Corinthians, who add a player with Premier League and international pedigree.

The 33-year-old has signed a deal until the end of 2026, with an option for an additional year if certain performance targets are met. Reports suggest his salary will be around £86,000 per month. Lingard will wear the number 77 shirt for the São Paulo-based club. At Corinthians, Lingard links up with Dutch forward Memphis Depay, who joined the Brazilian side in 2024 after leaving Atletico Madrid. The two were teammates at Manchester United during the 2015/16 season. This move marks another overseas chapter for Lingard after leaving South Korean club FC Seoul, where he and the club mutually agreed to terminate his contract in December 2025. During his time in the K-League, Lingard scored 19 goals in 67 appearances and was named club captain for the 2025 season. Before his time in Asia, Lingard had an unsuccessful season with Nottingham Forest in 2022-23, where he failed to score in 17 Premier League appearances. This followed a highly successful loan spell at West Ham United in 2021, during which he scored nine goals in 16 matches. Corinthians, one of Brazil's most successful clubs with seven national titles and two FIFA Club World Cup trophies, will compete in the Copa Libertadores this season. However, the team finished last season just four points above the relegation zone and recently lost a cup semi-final to a second-division side. Lingard becomes only the second British-born player to sign for Corinthians, following Colin Kazim-Richards.
