UConn Women Complete Perfect Season
UConn Huskies women's basketball capped their regular season with a dominant victory over St. John's, preserving an undefeated record heading into March Madness. The perfect run positions them as a strong favorite for the NCAA Tournament.
This marks the 11th time in program history the Huskies have completed an undefeated regular season, all under head coach Geno Auriemma. In seven of their previous ten perfect regular seasons, UConn went on to win the national championship. The victory over St. John's extended the team's winning streak to 47 games, a stretch dating back to the 2024-25 season. This run ties the fifth-longest winning streak in the history of Division I women's college basketball. UConn's dominance this season is reflected in their average margin of victory of nearly 38 points, the third-largest in NCAA Division I history. The only two teams with a larger average victory margin were also UConn squads from the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. The final game of the regular season was historic for its location, as it was the first-ever standalone women's college basketball game played at Madison Square Garden. The event drew an attendance of 9,612 fans. This season's charge has been led by scoring duo Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong, who are both averaging over 18 points per game. In the victory against St. John's, Fudd led the team with 14 points, while sophomore Sarah Strong contributed 11 points, seven rebounds, and a career-high-tying six steals. Head Coach Geno Auriemma, who has been at the helm since 1985, recently became the winningest coach in all of college basketball history. Under his leadership, the Huskies have secured 12 national championships and have had six previous perfect seasons that culminated in a national title.
